Kat Arney's book comes out of her experience as a geneticist and as a communications person for a major cancer charity. Both sets of skills inform Rebel Cell, as she traces out an evolutionary perspective on cancer. Arney talks to researchers who are using ecological insights to turn aggressive cancer cells' natural competitors against the disease. It's clearly an emerging area of study, and Arney elegantly explains complex ideas in a way that a general reader can relate to. It's conversational, clever, and funny. Every couple of pages I had another "aha!" moment as she put together the story of cancer. Really a ripping good read.
